Year 6 Transition
We realise that this is an unsettling time for all students, but especially Year 6 students who are moving up to Secondary School. We are thinking of you!
Please be assured that we are doing lots of work to ensure that all of our new students are properly supported to make the move as positive as possible.
Our new head of Year 7 is Mrs Mary-Anne Willmott. Mrs Willmott has been visiting primary schools, and is thoroughly enjoying meeting with both the students and their teachers. Working with Mrs Willmott is our Year 7 Student Support Worker, Mrs Tonya Hickling, who is also visiting schools. All of the primary schools have been completing information sheets about your children which is really helpful in making sure that we are prepared to support them as best we can both during the transition process and when they join us.
Because of the continuing regulations affecting schools as a result of Covid, our normal transition activities are going to look rather different from usual. Because students in each school have to be kept in their own ‘bubble’, we will be unable to run our normal transition day as we would like to at the end of June/ start of July. We would not be allowed to mix students in their new tutor groups as we would wish, which would negate the purpose of the day. Students who have been identified as having additional needs may well be invited in to look around school this term, in small school groups. Instead, our Year 7 transition day for the whole year group will take place on Friday 3rd September, from 8.40am until 3.00pm.
Similarly, we will be unable to hold our normal Year 6 Parents’ Evening as we would have liked this term. However, we can still give you the necessary information. Below is a letter detailing the Transition Information and a 'Transition information booklet’ with all the information that you will need to support your child’s start at The Castle School, including details about uniform and transport. In addition to this, we will be setting up an online facility where, if you feel that you still have unanswered questions, you will be able to make a five minute appointment to speak to a member of staff at school. This event will take place on Wednesday 30th June from 9am through until 7pm
