The Castle School became a Specialist Art College in September 2003 and the expressive arts curriculum is outstanding. Great emphasis is placed on the acquisition and application of skills in the classroom. Our work is shown to the wider community through exhibitions and community projects. Each year the school has major exhibitions of the artwork produced. The school environment is alive and thriving with all manner of student's high quality artworks on display throughout the site.
We are always looking for ways to celebrate and display our Art outside of the school grounds and in the wider community. The ArtforOffices scheme began in March 2005 and it has been made as easy as possible for Companies in the Thornbury and Bristol area to borrow student’s artwork to display as they choose in their own office space.

The Octagon Visual Arts Centre is based at The Castle School. It was established as part of the schools successful bid to become a Specialist Visual Arts College and to be recognized as a centre of excellence for the delivery of the visual arts.
The octagonal facility consists of a teaching space and a gallery that is for school and community use. Our aim is to bring to Thornbury a selection of exhibitions which will both reflect and enlighten the wider community, so far this has included the work of students, local artists and groups as well as internationally renowned artists such as Picasso, David Hockney and Aardman Animations.
The Visual Arts faculty’s community work has involved exhibitions and performances at partner schools, in pensioners clubs and in community centres. We have undertaken projects with various artists, who have worked alongside the students in the production and management of such projects and have brightened the environments through the introduction of murals, floor games and sculptures.
