Poetry Competition

KS3 were lucky enough to experience The Castle School’s annual performance poetry competition. They were treated to an array of poems ranging from Shakespeare to Adam Mitchell’s modern ‘Dumb Insolence’.

Every KS3 student had learned a poem off by heart and had recited this in class. The top students from each class went through to their year group final and competed for the overall prize of ‘Best Poem Recital’ in today’s live final.

Congratulations must go out to all finalists who performed their poems so brilliantly. The various year group winners were:

-Y7 – Katie Lyons

- Y8 – Alex Bridges

- Y9 – Ellie Clarke

Best Poem Recital: Beth Hyndman with ‘Not My Best Side’

Special thanks must go to our judges: Mr Hardiman; Mrs Bradford and Mrs Sturt. Further to this, a massive thank you must go to Ms Cheese and Ms Kaschuba who have worked behind the scenes on this event for the past few months to ensure every student performing was ready, well-equipped and confident in competing to a live audience made up of their peers!

Let’s look forward to next year’s poetry performance!
